Our Commitment

Timeless Craftsmanship

Water & Bird was founded on the philosophy that a quality hat should last a lifetime - and even be passed down to future generations. Drawing on the rich heritage of South American culture, beautiful globally-sourced trim, and our own passion for timeless design, our hats are hand crafted with our community in mind.  We honor the rich cultures of the land and relate to our partners like family. It is our belief that you should be connected to the story, heart and heritage of the clothes you wear, and we feel privileged to bring Water & Bird hats to your head.

Quality Materials

We source the highest quality materials, block classic designs, and use time-tested production techniques to craft our hats. Our hats are blocked with premium Merino wool, shorn from sheep herded by the gauchos of Patagonia. They are blocked on the same century old-machines that make their classic hats. They are finished with a soft lama leather hat band. The brims are wide and will keep their shape. We wrap the crown with a globally sourced hat band to make a hat that holds up and stands out.

Ethical and Sustainable

Our ethically sourced Merino wool is known for its softness and durability. We use 180 grams weight hat bodies, which means there’s more wool packed into each hat, causing it to hold its shape over time and wear. Our grade 4 Panama straw hats are hand woven in Ecuador, perfect for keeping you cool and shaded in style. We guarantee the quality of our hats, and we've intentionally designed hats and sourced quality materials that will only get better with age and wear. We wear our hats ourselves, to work, to celebrations, in the rain, in the sun, and on adventures.

Heritage Hat Making

Unlike other direct to consumer companies, we did not take any funding when it came to building our brand. In fact, we don't like the phrase "direct to consumer" because we see our customers as part of our family and community. However, it is important to us to note that we are independently owned and operated and do not rely on the sole U.S. hat factory (where most of the hats of our competitors made in the U.S.A. are produced). Instead we work independently with a factory in South America where we are hands on in perfecting our shapes, colors, and stiffness in person each season. This gives us more flexibility to be creative in our designs, unique in our materials, and bold in our vision.

Take Flight With Us

Water & Bird draws inspiration from the elements of Water and Air, as well as the Waterbird, a symbol of Spirit, spontaneity, and timelessness. We believe your Water & Bird hat will be to your companion wherever life takes you.
